Guide: The Unrighteous Summoner

I'm currently level 79 and running level 70ish maps with great succes.

Stats with aura's on
Life:2924
ES: 5812
Resistance: 78 all resist, 24 chaos

Introduction
This build is focused on utilizing the most deadly spectre in the game: The Burning Miscreation. The damage aura of this spectre – when utilized properly – will kill whites in 2 seconds, blue’s in 5 seconds and most yellow mobs in 10 seconds. The only downside is the fragility of the Burning Miscreation Spectre. The guide focuses on amplifying the deadly aura of the Burning Miscreation’s while utilizing a number of defensive skills to guarantee their survivability.

The end result is the capability to run into a room, watch everything around you die and walk out of the room 5 seconds later to repeat the trick in a new room.

Playstyle

As a summoner you are a shepherd for your spectres. You distract, debuff and force the attention of the enemies away so that your Burning Miscreations can run rampart. To reach this goal you utilize Decoy totem, Frostwall and multiple curses.

A standard battlescenario:

1.Enter the room

2.Cast Decoy totem

3.Cast 1-2x Frostwall, trigger elemental equilibrium

4.Dual curse the room

5.Collect loot

The spectre: Burning miscreation

First of all I would like to debunk some myths about these bad boys.

Do’s

Spoiler
1.Increased burning damage support gem increases their damage

2.Vulnerability curse increases their damage

3.Elemental weakness curse increases their damage

4.Flammability curse increases their damage

5.Increased Area of Effect support gem increases their AOE range

6.Elemental equilibrium increases their damage

7.Increased Minion life increases their damage

Don’t

Spoiler
1.Fire penetration support gem DOES NOT increase their damage

2.Increased minion damage DOES NOT increase their damage

3.Searing touch DOES NOT increase their damage

4.Increased burning damage passives DOES NOT increase their damage

5.Culling strike does not work on their aura

6. Concentrated effect lowers their aura but DOES NOT increase their damage

7. Remote Mine DOES NOT increase their damage

8. Increased chance to ignite DOES NOT increase their damage

9. Increased item rarity DOES NOT work on Burning Miscreations

10.Increased item quantity DOES NOT work on Burning MIscreations

11. Life leech gem DOES NOT work on their aura, DOES work on their melee attack. Imo not worth it unless you have a 6 link and even then i would prefer empower

The dirty details

I use the following skillset. Explanation is in the spoiler

Summon zombie “The Linebacker”

Spoiler
The zombies need to get to the mobs asap and tank their hits while you and your Burning Miscreations wreck the whole place. The gem setup is focused on speed and survivability.

Gear: Helm – preferably with +2 minions -

1.Summon Zombie

2.Increased Minion Life

3.Increased Minion Speed

4.Increased Minion and totem elemental resistance

Summon skeletons “The gang”

Spoiler
The skeletons are mostly used in tough situations like bosses . The skeletons need to gang up on the boss, take hits and keep the boss under control by swarming him. The gem setup is focused on damage and control.

Gear: Gloves

1.Summon skeleton

2.Multistrike

3.Added chaos damage

4.Blind

Summon spectre: “The little boys”

Spoiler
The little boys will burn everything down as long as they don’t die. You should at least run increased minion life and resistance. After their survivability has been increased you can think of focusing on increasing their damage.

Gear: Chest

1.Summon spectre

2.Increased burning damage

3.Increased minion life

4.Increased minion and totem elemental resistance

5.Increased Area of effect

I run a 4 link which is surely viable. A 5-link will greatly help tho
.

Decoy totem and Frost wall “The bait and the mousetrap”

Spoiler
The decoy totem is used to distract mobs and ensure they focus fire on something else than your minions. In general try to toss this totem as far in a room as possible, behind both your minions and the mobs. After that use frostwall on all ranged mobs to the sides and the melee mobs that gathered around your decoy totem. Not only will this knock them back and create a barrier between you and the mobs, it will also trigger elemental equilibrium.

Weapon:

1.Faster cast rate

2.Decoy totem

3.Frost Wall

Curses, “go wash your mouth”

Spoiler
Something’s come down to personal preference. How safe you want to be, how deadly you want to be and how much risk you like to take. I would personally pick a defensive option (enfeeble + temporal chains) and an offensive option (flammability + elemental weakness. Utilize your weapon switch. The damage of the Burning Miscreations is so high that an hybrid option is perfectly possible.

Shield

1.Faster cast rate

2.Curse 1

3. Curse 2

Aura’s, “Karma is a bitch”

Spoiler
My dream setup of aura’s would be Purity, Vitality and Discipine with enough mana/mana regeneration on my gear. Purity and Discipline buff the survivability of your spectres while Vitality keeps them fit between battles. I did not achieve this goal yet and unfortunately need Clarity to buff my mana regen.

Boots

1.Reduced mana

2.Vitality

3.Discipline

4.Purity

Life vs ES/LIFE vs CI

I choose to build Suicigoba as a ES/Life hybrid. The main reason was the life, chaos resist and ES nodes were very conveniently placed and would enable me to finish the character at level 85. A pure CI build would be finished slightly earlier, with higher base ES but no ability to use potions. A secondary reason was the meta game, high ES items are very expensive while slightly lower ES with life items go for almost nothing.

The skill tree

I will provide you with 4 skill tree’s. Normal, Cruel, Merciless and maps. I would strongly advise you to level as freezing pule/fire trap until you reach lunaris temple level 2 in merciless. Normal and Cruel will be easily doable while Merciless will provide a but doable challenge.

Skill tree after Normal:

Pointers:
-Level by using freezing pulse and fire trap
-Pick +40 life by helping oak
-Use ES/Life gear
-Pick additional nodes with resist/damage if you feel the need, spec out later.

Skill tree after Cruel:

Build: http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgMAB2MI9BCXEVAUsBZvHNwkPCepKPoqmCq6LKYxiDdmN4M5UjowO-FEBEZxSOdJUU25VcZXK1pta9ttGXNTeQN9GH_Gi3qPRpMnlSCboaKjpuunCKcrp1ysmLQMuJO8n7-XwFTB88NtyT3MvM9l0NDUGdkL4vfjn-q66-7sGPIe99f6gA==

Pointers:
-Continue to level by using freezing pulse and fire trap
-Pick the skillpoint by killing all bandits

Pointers:
-Get your feet wet as a summoner!
-Gem your spectres voor damage/life and support them with dual curses
-Kill all bandits for the skillpoint
-Use spelltotem + summon skeletons/minion instability

Skill tree: progress into maps
You can find my current build below, i plan to expand to more ES/block.
In addition i will experiment with additional mana nodes/leadership.

The to do list!

I would like to use this area to post activities that still have to be verified, build ideas that have to be tried and pieces of text i like to add in the future.

If you are interested, please provide input on these topics!!!

Gem testing

4. Life leech: it DOES NOT work on the aura but DOES work on the melee attack. Question: does it significantly increase the survivability

Skill tree

1. Necromantic Aegis: Does the use of a high resistance shield greatly improve the survivability or the trade off does not provide any benefits.

2. Leadership: Do or Don't, what are the experiences with this cluster.

Guide

1. Write a part about Magic finding with this build. In my experience you can farm maps very efficient without uber gear requirements.

3. Add an additional information part to refer to other guides/usefull sources

Again, please provide any input on these points in the thread. Lets do some CO CREATION!

how do you deal with chaos damage ?

i found especially those enemies that shoot piercing chaos projectiles very deadly as a life summoner cause they pierce right through your army and hit you all the time,
Dogs Summoner - http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/885199
Line of sight + Skeletons. They kill when they explode.

I'm mostly worried about maps with chaos mobs but everything can be avoided I guess.
Hello,

I discovered a few days ago the incredible power of theses burning mobs and i am glad to see that i am not the only one !

I had a look at your build you certainly have more survivability than i do.

Actually lvl 77, running fast and easely 68 maps :
- i chose reduced mana reservation nodes and EB to maximize the mana pool : i can run 6 auras (purity, hatred, haste, clarity, discipline, wrath) and sustain more than 200 mana/sec allowing me to use artic armor.
- i also focused on all "increase area of skills" in the skill tree (templar + witch + those in the center) : this maximize the area effect of righteous fire (+52%)
- using tabula rossa 6 links (i wish to have one day is real 6L chest) for my specters, i combined the same skills as you (increase buning damage, minion life, fire penetration, increase area of effect and concentrated effect)
- in the +3 skills gem wand (+1 skill gem and +2 cold gem on the same item), cold snap with increased area of effect and elemental proliferation (benefits from +3 skill) to freeze the mobs if they are too dangerous for my specters : works nice. Cold snap benefits from +52% increase area of skill.
- rejuvenation totem and life potions are intensively used to keep them alive (sometimes its not sufficient and i must revive new burning mis...). I actually can't use vitality aura because i don't have skill gem slot any more on my equipement...!
- as for zombies your combination of skill is interessant : i am using a classic 4 links helm (even not +1 minion!) with melee splash, multi strike and faster attack. In fact, zombies are only here to finished very big blues and yellow mobs.
- only one curse at a time : flamability
- only 2 specters at a time (no bargain/unique boots/queen's decree... basic equipment!)

Burning misc. can't reach far away targets as tentacle miscretion do but the great advantages of this mob are:
- no cooldown in the damage dealing (as soon as the mob enter the area of effect of righteousfire, it dies)
- 360° damage dealing. You can run but you can't hide. On the contrary , tentacle miscretion only deals damage in a given direction
- actually +53% increased area of effect (52% from skills + 31%(Increased Area) - 30%(Concentrated Area)) and + 63% (i think) more area of damage. In a word : deadly.

Be aware that this mob does not "light up" as soon as you revived him; it always takes several kills before launching righteous fire. But when the spell is on, it does not stop until death.

My dream ? 6L carcass jack on top of that :)

Are you sure that fire penetration does not increase their damage ?

The more life the specters have, the more damage they deal. I think that minion life nodes are usefull in this case.

skill tree looking like this :

Your minions do not benefit from your increased area of effect passive nodes or your increased aura radius passive nodes. Only those nodes that specifically state that they apply to minions (e.g., 15% increased minion life) affect them.

Do you have a source for this? I've never seen anyone from GGG say that minion life affects their damage in any way other than in the case of minion instability.

Why should i choose those spectres over the Flame Sentinels? (it's a question, i'm not provoking or anything)
I don't even know what those Burning Miscreation do, but Flame Sentinels are crazy good for me, i use 'em all the time.

To add to that; the UNrighteous fire aura the spectres make work in the opposite way to righteous fire - it's seemingly based on the enemies Life rather than it's own - therefore minion life does not affect the damage directly - however it can be argued on a melee spectre minion life is required for survivability
Great to see some response!

My tactic is as follows:

1. Try to toss a decoy totem BEHIND the pack.
2. Spam Icewall to lock them down
3. Lock them down with Summon skelleton and Enfeeble + Temp chain and take it slow

In my experience it depends a lot on how tanky you are. I have 24 chaos resist right now and 3k life combined with 2x insta pots. There is not much that can pose a threat and force me to retreat before droppng a decoy.
If the situation is really dangerous i spam frost wall first, if all fails i take it slow and use summon skelleton to clear the area from around a corner.

Don't underestimate the effect of spamming decoy totem behind the mob. Especially easy if you use quicksilver and semi circle the mobs.
In addition i would suggest high amount of chaos resistance on gear to make sure you are at least in the positive.
